Crossing Guard Program
Back to the Enforcement Division page
Crossing Guards play an important role within our community.
On behalf of Council, we would like to thank all of the Crossing Guards for all their hard work and dedication. These men and women are working to assist children with crossing intersections safely on their way to school. If you are driving in an area where there is an Adult Crossing Guard, please take caution and watch out for children and the Crossing Guard.
Council wants to educate drivers, residents and their children of their responsibilities when approaching an intersection.
Effective January 1, 2008, the transfer of responsibility of the administration for the School Crossing Guard Program was transitioned to the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury By-Law Department under the supervision of the Clerkâs Department from the South Simcoe Police Services.

The Design and Implementation of an Adult School Crossing Guard Program is largely the decision of Council. The development of an Adult School Guard Program involves a community partnership involves the individuals with the expertise of Law Enforcement Agencies, Planning and Development Services, Engineering, School Boards and Local Schools. Working together with parents, Council identify and approve the locations where Adult Crossing Guards are needed within our community.
The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury establishes Crossing Procedures for a variety of the traffic situations as well as providing staff resources, funding, training and equipment for the program.
The Town requires additional Adult Crossing Guards for our various locations to assist with backup and holiday coverage.
