Proxy Information

An appointed voting proxy is an eligible elector who is acting on behalf of another eligible elector who has been appointed by the elector using the prescribed form to represent them at the voting place. The appointed voting proxy is allowed to cast a ballot on behalf of elector who is not able to attend voting place.

A person shall not (a) appoint more than one voting proxy or (b) act as a voting proxy for more than one unrelated person. The restriction in clause (b) does not apply if the proxy and other person are spouses, or siblings of each other, parent and child, or grandparent and grandchild. Therefore, an eligible elector may either act as a voting proxy for one non-related elector or several related individuals as identified above.

Pursuant to Section 44 of the Municipal Elections Act, a person shall not appoint a voting proxy for the election until the time for withdrawal of nomination has expired for all offices for which the election is conducted and the appointment must be on the prescribed form.

The first possible date for Applications for Proxy Voting are available from the Clerk's Office is Tuesday, October 3, 2006 unless additional nominations are required in which case the first day is Friday, October 6, 2006.

The last day for making application to the Clerk of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury for a Certificate to Vote by Proxy is Monday, November 13, 2006.

The person who has been appointed a voting proxy shall complete the application in the prescribed form, including a statutory declaration that they are the individual appointed as voting proxy. Proxies will certified during regular business hours in the Clerk's Office, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from as early as Tuesday, October 3, 2006, unless additional nominations are required, to and including up to 4:30 p.m., November 13, 2006. Proxies will also be certified in the Clerk's Office, 3541 Line 11, on Saturday, November 4, 2006 and Wednesday, November 8, 2006 from noon until 5:00 p.m.
